The tax office disallowed CHF 4,800 of continuing-education costs. Can we challenge that?

Reading the notice and checking statute, practice and case law …

Yes. Job-related continuing-education costs are deductible, and the disallowance can be challenged with an objection.

  • Deadline: 30 days from notification. If the notice was served on 2 September, it ends on 2 October.
  • File the objection in writing with the assessment authority, enclosing the course certificate and proof of payment.

Use cases

Nyteca® Chat in day-to-day practice

Three typical situations from fiduciary, tax advisory and law firms – and how Nyteca® Chat helps. You still review and sign every draft.

All use cases
  1. Fiduciary firm

Review an assessment notice and draft an objection

    The situation:
The assessment departs from the tax return as filed, and a deduction has been cut. The objection period is running, and the grounds have to hold up.
    With Nyteca® Chat:
You upload the notice and ask whether an objection is worth it. The chat sets the correction against the legal position, states the deadline and drafts the objection with request, grounds and enclosures.
    • Draft with request, grounds and enclosures
    • A note on when the deadline runs out
    • Every statement with its citation
    • You review and sign

  2. Tax advisory firm

A quick answer while the client is on the phone

    The situation:
A client calls: she wants to know when her tax return is due and whether she can deduct a training course. The answer should come during the call and still be right.
    With Nyteca® Chat:
You type the question into the chat as you talk, at the quickest level. The answer is short, gives the relevant citation and openly flags anything that cannot be evidenced.
    • Short answer with citation
    • Version matching the tax period
    • Open points clearly flagged
    • Ready without setup

  3. Law firm

A short opinion on a tax question in a client matter

    The situation:
A tax question comes up in a client matter, for example in the division of an estate. It sits at the edge of your practice area, yet the client expects a written assessment.
    With Nyteca® Chat:
You describe the facts and the question. The chat produces a short opinion with facts, legal appraisal, conclusion and citations – a draft to work from.
    • Structured into facts, appraisal, conclusion
    • Every statement with its citation
    • A draft to work from
    • The responsibility stays with you
